QuickTime 7.4 Warning for After Effects
« on: January 29, 2008, 09:13:43 AM »
Or as the Adobe Support Forum moderately suggests...

**** WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL QUICKTIME 7.4 ****

http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c05dee6
You will no longer be able to run After Effects

Apparently the consequences are particularly harsh to Apple users:

Apple Concerns:
As we consider the Mac as a serious contender for the AVFX Studio I can’t help but notice how tolerant, or simply unconditional, faith-based support computing is for the Apple platform. I’m sure that if Microsoft did something where “Affected professional users have found the only solution at present is to reinstall Mac OS X without the QuickTime update”, there would be international furore. Neither platform is perfect but this flouting of industry-standard testing for production environments alarms me. Sadly this trend of problematic officially endorsed system updates (not mentioning Leopard), makes me urge every Apple user to wait a few days until the rest of the world does the beta-testing at their expense. Only after gauging the response of other successful users should you consider doing the same.

Let’s hope things change as I genuinely think the Mac is a brilliant computing platform for creative people. ;D

Just a note to people concerning this: installing the latest iTunes (which should also have Quicktime) will upgrade Quicktime to 7.4.091, so just skip that if there's an option.
Yep, I did a good job as a lab rat here.
Just in case people were wondering, it stands for 'At The Convenience Of The Experimenter.'

And now... this!

As expected, a week later and QuickTime 7.4.1 is now available and apparently bug-free. ;D
