Mural For the Visual and Performing Arts garden space!
« on: January 05, 2011, 03:04:20 PM »
We're trying to get as much support as we can from the students so that the Head of CSU will finally grant us permission to paint a mural for the garden space in building 21 (Animation and graphic design building in case you don't know :P )
Students and lectures have always supporetd the idea of painting a mural in this space, but once it gets to the top it always gets rejected :(
So we need more support than ever to get this thing finally happening!!! We need to show them that this is the best idea ever and show them why they need one!

What we need now, before we can even propose a mural is a design for the mural itself. It must be
-CSU friendly
-non racist
-no rude stuff
-appropriate to be viewed by all ages
-including some crows in there would be a nice litttle tribute to Wagga's Aboriginal Heritage (Wagga Wagga-Place of Many crows).
-The mural MIGHT span over the three blank walls, but we're not sure yet, the photos of the area will be posted here soon, as well as the dimensions which I will try to get ASAP, so be a bit creative with the shapes you have to work with.
Lets show them somthing the CSU Board would WANT to put up there.

Designing a mural for a University would look great in your portfolio, plus your work will last and be adored for years to come.

This is the face book events link
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=169291209781424
Please show your support by attending the event!!!!

We will be posting the deigns and on the Events wall on Facebook, but if you dont have a FB account you can Simply post it here. A Panel of Judges (yet to be named) will choose the best designs on the 31st of March 2011.
Try to include your First Initial and Last name underneath the artwork/link to the artwork if posting here, as its hard to recognise who everyone is.

This is not an official Charles Sturt University announment.

Good idea Mazzy, it has my support whether that means waving a paint brush or whatever.

Maybe there are two parts to it - Designing a kind of  space, cave jungle sky etc and then creating a range of characters to be in and interract in that space. Just a thought. This might mean that people could more easily work on different aspects of the mural and still have it all connected perhaps.

I like the idea of everyone having a character or an object or something to design for the mural :)
so its more collaborative and not just one person who gets to do the whole thing

This is great maz :) I hope you have better luck than we did haha
go go go!

great idea, I have tried fruitlessy twice, then you youngens, so much energy. Im sure you'll convince them. Needless to say you have the financial support of the animation club.

While this matter is at hand, i will venture into the reason why in the past we have been unsuccesful in renovating or improving our facilities, including the idea for a mural. First pitched mid 2009 - it's our apparent lack of credibility as an interested body. That is to say, animators as a collective whole, do not respect and dutifully maintain our resources as is. Why would the school then allow an improvement?

Now that is not to say we shant succeed, we shall, 2011 is a new year with new students and a chance to turn things around. I encourage everyone to keep this in mind when pitching ideas like this. Reputation is favour currency. Respect the labs and we may have a foot to stand on.

Good luck!

ok, Thanks Rowan, So do you think we should get a petion to show our interest? How many do youthink we would need? I think we should get the graphic design students interested too, cos they have access to the area as well....

Maybe a solid way to argue against the previous barriers to it is to say - give us an opportunity to become connected - by having a project that can provide a sense of ownership and belonging - which will generate more respect etc.  The school has the opportunity to support a positive loop here.

The answer is do everything and anything you think will help, a petition is a good start, likewise wording it in such a way as Bernard mentioned that may give it a beneficial spin. Graphic designers are a good idea, firstly there's their natural talent for this sort of thing, but we want to include other faculties in all activities, especially those regarding shared resources and facilities.
