Mental Ray stuff and things!

Chuck everything you have found handy with mental ray in this thread.

First one I found last night was FILTERS! Gotta love them.

Is your rendered image looking a little bit like a clean cut blur? Are your textures kinda not looking as good as they were in photoshop? Then (unless you have done something really whacked out, or your UV maps aren't working) its prbably because the generic Multi-Pixel-filteing settings aren't set to somethign that agrees with your image.

To change this go into the render globals of Mental Ray and change the Multi-pixel filtering settings under Anti-aliasing. Remember that filters like Michell and Lanczos can take a significant amount more time to render.

Its crazy fun. Below are some examples of what the different filters result in. The differences are subtle, but the subtleties count.

Heres an old occulsion pass, I'll get a render of the newer objects up soonish. It makes my image look happy and bright and shiny, not to mention making the shadows look swish.

At the risk of sounding spammy, I gotta say that looks mighty sexy. There's just something about the speakers that makes me enamoured.

Continuing with the Mental ray trend here is a good PDF document covering sub surface scattering in some depth. Got milk?
