Coffee Machine?!
« on: May 03, 2007, 10:32:48 PM »
This is in community projects, because I can't see anywhere better to put it...
Basically as a group; if people are interested, each pitch in say $5 to purchase a coffee machine for the studio... Damian thought it was a decent enough idea, and most of us do live on the caffiene-rich substance so why not?
Anyone else agree??

I don't drink coffee (I'm quite possibly the epitome, at least in CSU, of the anti-multimedia student), but I'll be willing to contribute $5 for the greater good.

I'm thinking coffee maker; would like suggestions or people to pick apart the problems of such an idea though... Always (most of the time!!) helpful to have critical feedback (ie. criticism)!!

could always shimmy up to the jack cross where they have a coffee machine, soft drink and candy vendor, also a fridge.

Here is my opinion having worked in places with coffee machines... and places where people make the  coffee for you.

1> Will people be disciplined enough to keep the machine clean?
2> Who will pay for the coffee beans? (This can be VERY expensive)
3> When the machine breaks, who will pay for maintenance?

The initial cost is quite insignificant compared to running costs... If it works and people keep it clean and keep chipping in to the kitty, then it would be a great thing. If not, it just ends up being a dirty stinky waste of $$

Well, if we were going to have an actual coffee machine, as in the one at cafe's, and not just the vending machine- we would also need more than just the machine. As Damian said, we'll need to pay for coffee beans etc, and milk... and where shall we keep the milk?
I think in ways of a coffee machine, it'd probably be best to get a vending machine type one, despite the fact that i think its rather gross, i'm sure some would benefit...or we could just get a jug, and bring our own coffee from home... i think a bar fridge(coincidently im selling mine... ;)*hint hint*) would be a better way to go, so then we can keep our own cold drinks in there too...
i think a jug would be far better, and it would be like 5c each instead of $5 :P lol im poor! leave me alone!

the point of the new lab open times, as far as i can tell from what hages has been saying. Is that there aren't meant to be people being in there over night etc. hence there is no real reason for need of a coffee machine.. because the times allow for the nosh pit to be open and most shops.. so if you feel the need for a coffee while in the lab, you probably needed a break anyhow. So you may as well just walk to the jack cross center or go to the nosh or drive into town while you wait for stuff to render etc... so you get blood flowing and not suffer DVT.

be sure to bring your favourite blanket and slippers. Gonna be one cold winter this year. Might need your snow shoes too! better still, sit on the PC, after all, they can do everything, like being a nice bum warmer. i know i use mine as a heater. Intel has finally found a use for their hot cpu's lol

I am willing to pay $10.
If you need someone to get this organised.
I can make a list of all the students.
Ask everyone for money at the end of a lecture.
It's fully optional. But i can cross out whoever has paid.
And then can also maybe ask for some money from the Multimedia club.
And also get someone to ask everyone at a 3rd year lecture. Although third years may not see the point when they leave soon.

I suggest, for safety, we cover all the computers and keyboards in gladwarp; while this will make them unuseable, it will protect them from bitter coffee goodness!
...
Unless it's split on the gladwrap while it's steaming, creates condensation, and gets into the computers THAT way...
...
Oooh, you win this time laws of thermodynamics!

In seriousness, I don't drink coffee, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a beverage on hand in the lab...
Just in case people were wondering, it stands for 'At The Convenience Of The Experimenter.'

And now... this!
