Music / March 5th - Home Tavern!
« on: February 10, 2010, 10:12:12 AM »

After more than a year off from organizing shows due to university commitments, I am back, ready and raring to go for a brand new year of metal in Wagga Wagga. What I hope to bring this year to the scene is the same I always have, high quality regional bands, top Australian talent, and where possible, international talent!

So let everyone know that "Heavy at Home" is back for a new year, and a big lineup for the reunion show is going to be announced soon!

**********

I am proud to announce the first band on the bill will be something new and very unique for a Heavy at Home concert! Utilizing a combination of atmospheric drumming, melancholic tones and experimental rhythms, this band delivers and eclectic combination of drone, post rock, black metal and progressive elements, noting key influences such as Agalloch, Cult of Luna, Parhelia and Wolves in the Throne Room. I am proud to announce 'Tranquil Deception' as part of this special comeback event!

**********

The second band on the bill needs no introduction to Wagga Wagga audiences. I of course am talking about Leicohtica. Having been a staple of the Wagga metal diet now for six years this gig represents a major shift in the dynamic of the band.

This will be guitarist Rhys Mottley's farewell show from the group. The band will be playing tracks spanning the length of time that Rhys has been with us and will be a fitting farewell to a longtime friend who we all wish the best of luck to in his future endeavors at ANU!

**********

SoulTremor originated in early-2007 as an unnamed, unknown idea brewing in the mind of guitarist / vocalist Matt Graham, who wished to form a metal band with its roots in old-school thrash music, but with a technical and progressive edge that was uncommon in the live scene. He found a kinship in lead guitarist Rohan Macdonald, and together they started honing and crafting the music style that ran deep within them. After nearly a year of endless and frustrating searching for quality musicians to suit the intensity and complexity of their desired sound they came across Matt Lloyd - drummer extraordinaire - who's love for metal and amazing ability helped solidify the line - up, and the final piece to the puzzle Allan Swaffield, a wise musician from Wagga (an Ex: Leicohtica guitarist) with an incredible work ethic and just as much hair on his head has proven to be the ONLY source of brutal bass lines to forge out of this band allowing them to take their music to the live scene.

The next wave is here.

In an effort to add to the uselessness that is the internet we have this fabulous piece of design work... http://www.leicohtica.org/ there is much more to come, although most of it will be equally as stupid.

regards,

PC / Re: Built me a new PC...

One thing I noticed that you are putting programs in a 2nd partition but same drive as windows.. could this slow down application speeds? Of course with 8 gig of ram and quad core processing id suppose that overcomes it.

For the audio stuff i wont be, windows XP, protools, and VST's are all going to e on seperate physical drives.

For vista it is on a single drive partitioned as I couldnt care less as it is word processing and internet only really, dont care for it for anything else beyond that.

U get this from crown?    iv got the same exept for the case and the video card    and i dont have the "L"  on the end of my motherboard

OOoOO  but that looks like a kick ass sound card and speakers though

---
It over clock realy nicly   u can easily get to 3 gigs with stock (but i wouldnt recomend stock cpu for ocing though)  Its awsome since u can tweek the ram multiplyer and so u can overclock the cpu without killing the ram     It also has a nice  "auto" valtage setting in bios that helps with trying to tweek stuff      also  if u raid 2 drives, it has very good 'on motherboard' raid0 stuff that seems to work fine and fast (220mb ps + for hd speed)

one problem that i had was that the motherboard did not reconise the ethernet port without drivers (my other mb did...) so yeh   make sure u have the drivers before u format  (but if u are running vista they may already have that diver installed since im runnin xp64... )

Im asuming its vista ultimate 64bit?

Nah not from crown, i ordered parts from several sites off the net.

Had to install the ethernet drivers yeah, not a major drama, the disc that came with the motherboard had them on it. It wasn't in vista ultimate even, and yeh, thats what I am running, Vista Ultimate 64bit.

Sucks a bit cause beta testing the project mix i/o drivers is ghey.

Community Projects / Project:/ Leicohtica - The Dead Soul Orchestra

To begin with I want everyone who reads this to understand that I have not consulted Hages on the validity of you undertaking any of the below projects as a part of your study. They may meet the criteria needed of you for your assignments, and they may not, time will tell, but there is a few projects that I would like some animation/multimedia etc students involved in.

Studio Diaries;
for someone who can be here over the break...

Leicohtica hits the studio to record its second album starting on Tuesday July 15th. We will spend three days in 'Flying Fox Studios' tracking drums, and further to that about 4 weeks on and off recording other instruments.

We are looking for individuals who are interested in spending long hours with us (the band) in a confined space filming interviews, discussions, general studio stuff and whatever more you want to contribute. We can do it ourselves, but this may be a good opportunity for someone if there is any interest.

We would want people to come to some rehearsals between now and when we hit the studio to record to film some preliminary (lead up) stuff.

For actual studio stuff... those involved will need to meet us at our rehearsal space at 7:30 - 8am on the Tuesday 15th for loading, then be expected to remain with us until 5pm. The wednesday and thursday would be 9-5 days respectively with more flexibility assuming you got most of what you wanted on the first day. Meals on these days can be paid for by the band (morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea) if necessary.

We would be looking to release the first 'studio' diary the Saturday following our studio time (saturday 19th). The turn around is quick and will require several short videos to be made over the proceeding few weeks. We will have a video diary on our youtube account, and keep them as a video log. We will promote this as much as possible.

These video could include shooting the mixing process. The mastering process (might include a trip to Sydney covered by the band) and much more. You will have complete access to our material to cut this stuff together including the bands HD Video Camera and whatever other assets we can lend you.

You will get to see the making of a record from start to finish and be involved and credited in the subsequent release (1000 discs).

Applicants should understand that the band will talk about poo a lot.

PM me if interested.

Film Clip;
As most of you know last year multimedia students Matt Regan, David Orman and Jon Taranto worked towards creating a Leicohtica filmclip. This clip has aired on ABC TV's Rage, Sky Music Television in the UK and Europe and numerous other community networks across Europe and Australia.

Matt Regan is currently completing the second film clip from our debut album 'The Balance of Fire', and it is due for release within a months time.

The group is looking for able students who want to be involved in the filming and production of a third Leicohtica film clip. If you read what came before it you know we are hitting the studio very soon.

We would like to be able to bring out a clip very soon after the album is put together and perhaps release them simultaneously.

We have 'a' video camera that can be used, but we can probably source more if you cant. We have some ideas for the clip as we have an image to maintain, but are looking for creative people who want to have a lot of input and really run this as far as they can take it.

This could involve 2-3 days (may be nights) of shooting on location. We will cover all expenses you incur (fuel costs, food etc). If you are involved you will be credited in the Album booklet and CD sampler (1000 discs).

The clip will be for the song 'Orchestrations of Infinite Disorder'... hopefully that name gives you some idea of what to expect.

Again, applicants expect to hear a lot of talk about poo.
PM me if interested.
