Movies / TinTin
« on: September 02, 2008, 12:35:24 PM »
Dreamworks bought the rights to TinTin a while back, we all remember the TinTin comics im sure - and so 3 TinTin films are going to be made - all motion capture, photorealistic 3D (styled to the style of the comics).

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are producing/directing the films; Spielberg will direct the 1st, Jackson the 2nd, and at the moment they are planning on co-directing the 3rd. So that sounds like they're going to be 3 kick arse films. WETA is heavily involved of course, busy modelling character at the moment - Andy Serkis has signed on to play Captain Haddock - and i'm sure he'll do other mo-cap roles if needed.

:)

But of course Spielberg and Jackson are pretty busy on separate projects at the moment (Jackson - The Lovely Bones [2009], Spielberg - Transformers 2 [2009]). I have a reasonable amount of faith in those 2 to make some kick arse films... As long as theres no input from George Lucas it will be fine. ;)

Movies / Ark
« on: June 01, 2008, 11:25:55 PM »
Those who went to the animation festival will remember the somewhat epic film 'Ark' which was screened. A fun fact for those who saw it is that those shiny shiney environments were miniatures!

Article: http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=4115

They used Platige Image's motion control system in the filming of the miniatures, and for those who havent done MPI203 or VFX105 (3D) you guys may not know what im talking about, but those of you who have remember the short film 'The Cathedral'??

http://www.platige.com/index.php?lng=en&tu=27

Well Platige Image was responsible for that. Its funny how all these things can intertwine isnt it? In fact Marcin Kobylecki who is executive producer at Platige Image and was executive producer on 'The Cathedral' was producer on 'Ark'.

Movies / The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
« on: February 21, 2008, 03:18:09 PM »
Upcoming film in which Heath Ledger was starring..

Just as a side note I only just found, he was apparently filming a Terry Gilliam film at the time (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus).

As Alex said in the Dark Knight thread, Ledger was filming another film at the time of his death. The film has since been placed on hiatus, and there were doubts as to whether or not the production would continue, seeing as they were reasonably into the filming when Ledger passed. At any rate the director stated that if production were to continue, the film would be dedicated to Ledger's memory.

Different methods of completing the film's production without Ledger have been discussed, such as talks of digitally recreating him (Marlon Brando-esque (Superman Returns)), but the most recent news is that due to the nature of the film's story (travelling through parallel worlds) allows for Ledger to be replaced (his character "transformed" into another version of himself) by another actor.

Early rumours suggested that Johnny Depp was to replace Ledger, but most recent news has said that 3 actors - Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell may replace Ledger (as different incarnations of the one character).

Thoughts??

Games / Wii Hero Pack
« on: August 08, 2007, 07:08:02 PM »
Camy Pro Gear has announced yet another attachment for the Wii-mote/nunchuck. In addition to the Wii Sports various sporting equipment clip on's (to make u feel like ur actually playing it, or a money making device...im thinking both) and the Zapper attachment.

The "Hero Pack"!

Like Wii Sports attatchments, this is meant for 1 game.. Zelda! With the Hero Pack you will find yourself sporting the master sword and hyrulian shield - the wii-mote fitting into the hilt of the sword, and the nunchuck along the handle of the sheild.

Games / L.A. Noire
« on: August 05, 2007, 07:11:17 PM »
Has anyone seen anything on an upcoming game 'L.A Noire'?

I found it randomly the other day, its coming out on the PS3, and its based in Los Angeles the 1940s. U play as a detective i believe, and apparently the colouring-style that they'r using really capture the feel of the 1940s flms. I watched the trailer and it looked pretty sweet, bar the fact its a PS3 exculsive.

But apart from all that jibberish there the main thing that caught my eye was it is being published by Rockstar, but developed by Team Bondi; a Sydney-based developer formed in 2003 for those who dont know. So u guys should check it out, and see the shineyness (not sure thats a real word) coming out of Australian companies.

Games / Halo 3
« on: June 05, 2007, 06:11:36 PM »
Being an avid Halo fan i guess its time to ask the question,

Who's looking forward to Halo 3???

--

I'm fairly psyched for the game, for the multiplayer looks brilliant (check out the BETA footage). Extremely happy they finally introduced the Mongoose - something they tried to do in the previous games but failed. Im not sure if the return of the assault rifle is a good thing, but at least they kept the battle rifle in it as well.

I was upset when i discovered they had changed the controller layout, having kept the same layout thru the previous games, but apparently the new layout is alot better.. And its not like they changed much anyway.

New additions such as the Bubble Sheild, the man-cannon and the incredibly destructive Spartan Laser look like they will completely change the gameplay. And from what iv seen of the 2 lvls Snowbound and Highground... they look amazing.

One fear that i have is that they will do what they did with Halo 2, in which focus on the multiplayer took away from the short single player campaign..

Have to wait and see i guess.

And only those avid fans would b looking forward to the 'Legendary Edition' - the game + 3 special dvds full of wonderful featurettes and other features all contained within a bust of the Cheif's helmet... Its almost worth the $200 it costs. Otherwise theres always the normal edition, or the special ed - which comes at the base price and with one special features dvd.

Release: 25th September 07
