Suggestions / Re: Image posting on the forums ~everyone please read~
« on: September 26, 2009, 12:44:10 PM »
everyone stop your whinging! lol this course is about the perfection of imagery , so i want to see an image on a wip , and i dont want to navigate elsewhere to find it , be kind , post a pic and DONT BE SO CHEAP!!

Matts kind of got a point there.
As a third year with limited time, when I browse through the topics of first and second years Im doing it quick. To be blunt, we're like little kids. We stop and look at the pictures, and if theres no pictures we will just skim over your WIP Topic and you wont get any feedback....

As Pat suggested, post a small image and then a link to the larger one. I see most of u use flickr, flickr auto resizes images... so it really isn't too hard to copy two links instead of one for the benifit of getting feedback to improve your own work.  ;D

CSU General / Portfolio Website Question?
« on: August 05, 2009, 06:20:41 PM »
Hey dudes,

im looking to set up my own portfolio-type website for my showreel and job seeking-ness.
I have heard around the place that its not a good idea to have nicknames as your website address.
But, i find i have a rather unappealing name, and my nickname "Pamz0r" is much more appealing.
I was wondering if there are any issues with using nicknames for websites, or if it classifies as business or something (the rumours were very vague) ??

Ta!  ;)

PC / Re: Windows 7 RC
« on: August 01, 2009, 03:35:40 PM »
man thats pretty cool. btw, creative ftw ( i have a creative zen micro- its old, but reliable ^_^)
I also am now running on windows7. and it is pretty fancy. But what i wish is that Windows cut all the crappy pretty stuff and made a operating system that works without having a pretty blue rotating donut, and a ripple everytime u click with a wacom. Yes, im aware that you can turn these features off. But nuts to spending a whole day turning off all the little pretty things  :P What Windows should do is instead of trying to copy the prettiness of the new Apple stuff being pumped out, they should set themselves apart from them. Nerds like windows. its just a fact. they should make it more nerd friendly and less pretty  ;) But im not going to complain too much because I myself am completely incapable of creating an operating system. lol .
In comparison with Vista, Win7 already blows poo particles in its general direction. Bring on win7's sept release!! w000t

PC / Vista's Ripple Effects Annoying You?
« on: August 01, 2009, 03:24:29 PM »
Hello boys and girls,
Just say, you're using windows vista or win7(beta) and you're using a wacom, drawing something and you're trying to do repetitive motions and that annoying ripple seems to make ur cursor lag and create a rather large annoyance? Well, i finally got fed up with it today and decided i'd fix it forever! Googles magic helped me find this forum:
Click Here To Learn How To Kill The Ripple Effect :D
and for those who are just too lazy to click the link and load a new page, i'll just paste the post here...

Quote
I use an Intuos Wacom Tablet in Photoshop CS4 x64, and I've been driven crazy by an animated ring that appears when I touch the pen tip to a menu or slider. It made my movements much less precise. E.g. when I tried to drag a slider a short distance (say, 100% opacity to 95%), the pen wouldn't grab the slider at first; and then it would make much too big an adjustment (100% to 50%...).

I've now tracked down the solution, posted on the EU Wacom forum 2 days ago: View topic - small annoying things on vista...

Here's what it says:

"Vista has the 'pen inking' from XP TabletPC edition integrated, allowing gesture and handwriting recognition. You can control the settings in a special control panel for this, called 'TabletPC Input' panel. [Pen and Touch, W7.]
*Disable 'Press and Hold' to remove that circle.*

"You could also disable the service 'TabletPC Input Service' or go to device manager, select Human Interface Devices' and disable WacomVirtualHID.*

"Then Vista does not see a pen devices and will not activate those features. The tablet will still work fine on desktop and in usual pressure sensitive applications."

I had already disabled the tablet PC in Services, but apparently that wasn't enough. I disabled Press & Hold, and the ring has vanished.

This is probably well known to Wacom/Photoshop users who migrated to Windows 7 from Vista, but I migrated from XPPro, and the info was tolerably hard to find online, so I'm posting it here in case anyone finds it useful.

Modelling / Re: Scene Optimisation
« on: July 11, 2009, 05:26:00 PM »
hey roho!
One thing i recommend doing before deleting history is SAVING! each time you go to delete history on an object save it first, delete the history and then save it again.
you could do it in one big hit also. but if you do it that way, still save before the history is deleted, and then save again after. But don't save over the file. Incremental saves are the way of the future, so you can always go back to previous files. Also, when saving incremental files you'll wanna be aware of what you're naming everything.
What I do when Im saving stuff is put a number at the front, and then when you go to open them in maya you sort it by date modified.
heres an example of how i'd name it:
"01_Image01_Modelling(BeforeHistoryDeletion)"
"02_Image-01_Modelling(AfterHistoryDeletion)"
Also a good way to keep your scene running well without lag is optimising your scene size. File>OptimiseSceneSize(optionbox) and then apply. but i recommend saving before and after aswell...

Hope this helps.  :)
