1700 is probably too much for that setup...

I think that this setup would suit your needs     This is crowncustoms (where i buy my parts from)

For a NON-gaming pc    Just maya and photoshop/adobe products
Graphics card:   NVIDIA 8500GT – 512MB    : $99
CPU:   INTEL CORE 2 DUO E4500 – 2 X 2.2 GHz – 2MB – 800FSB  $170
Motherboard: some base level gigabite  - $120
250 gig main operating system raid edition hd - 130    <-- they would probably have to order them in    very reliable for operating system
500 gig hd  32mb -main storage drive  -  $160
powersupply: COOLERMASTER 460W EXTREME POWER - $80
ram: 2GB 800MHz - $110
Sound card: CREATIVE AUDIGY OEM  -  $50
some $90 case

Around $1000

maybe 100 for vista...   id rather xp but yeh

maybe they will charge 50 to put the custom pc together

But on the other hand     if u buy the $1700 computer    and it breakes   then u can just take it back and they would know how to fix it...

But if u need renders to do, u can take it to uni and use the Uber awsome pc's :D

thats my 2cents
If my work is s***. Then i MUST be told it's s***. And why it's s***. If not... what is the point of a 'Visual Effects Community?'
