Web / Coma1 - Web Projects
« on: June 05, 2007, 01:10:17 PM »
Okay so I figured since there is no forum for Honors Students (and im the only one of them i think??? so it would be a bit pointless) I would just cram some of my current stuff in here.

Most of it is works in progress so there is errors all over the place, so if you find one, then post it and ill do some kinda work around. Anyway, first off, here is the WIP website for my independent record label 'anti-human records'.

http://www.anti-human.net

This is just a TEMPLATE there is no real content yet. Reason being the div (overflow) tags that are the scroll areas where my content is gunna go will be changed to dynamically get content from a wordpress blog I have installed on the server. So thats my ambition there.

The music player which doesnt play anything will eventually play music by the artists on the label and come from an XML playlist and load dynamically.

So other parts of the site...
http://forum.anti-human.net
So the forum follows the layout of the site, yipee... or rather the other way around? either way they should be relatively similar in navigation.

So the store, whats happening there, well a legit store is being placed underneath the current shel;l of the site, this store will allow people to pay for and download songs/albums etc, or elect physical copies of albums. The store will be a fully fledged retail thingy thingy, theres heaps of cool dynamic stuff in the store being implemented. Anyway that comes LATER. for now... site design basic critique... i know some of it is failing but general concept?

Obviously the University is really asking, 'Justify us spending money on this'...

***

The AIAF is in many fundamental ways a neccesary event in the catalogue of cultural events supported by the University. In todays competitive environment this event re-inforces both the staff and students dedication to their specific proffesional practices.

Primarily the event forces dialogue between the University, the School, and particularly the Animation and VFX degree with the wider community. It offers an opportunity to the greater viewership a cultural phenomenon that they would otherwise be unable to have ready access to. This means that the school is creating and mainting its relationship as an integral part of the local community and is integrating itself with its environs. This is one event where the school can present itself and represent itself and its staff as knowledgable, hardworking and extremely dedicated and is a fantastic opportunity to initiate conversation between past, present and future students. The school in order to maintain its position and to expand upon its position in and around the region must involve itself with the region and this is one fantastic opportunity to do so.

Above and beyond this the festival creates a unity amongst peers of the school across varying degrees by offering a plethora of options to those of differing taste. There is students coming across multiple degrees and multiple years and this event forges relationships within the school that may not otherwise be so easily created. Therefore it offers not only the opportunity to engage with the wider community, but the opportunity to create a community in and within itself. A space to harbor and entice creativity.

I want to rant more and more ill probably edit my post later...

Reviews / Rackmounting Hard Drives
« on: May 30, 2007, 04:22:10 PM »
Okay, so I have pledged that I wont delve into the ridiculous, and I well have enough rack mounted gear as it is, but I am thinking of creating a server backup of some of my stuff and I love the space saving awesomeness of rack mounts. Now I have one full 12U rack with gear but am going to place a second 12U rack mount on my other side of the table. My concept is this...

I place a M-DES-1024D switch (24 port switch at 1 Rack Unit) or something similar, and then run Terabyte My Book world editions from it. Of which is could fit 3 to a rack unit. The actual rack units i can get a mate to make at his metal workshop for practically naught.

Benefit of this is that I can run a server side script that automates a login and rights to a specific folder SO that when my website for my record label goes live, I can run a script to create a login and specific rights to a folder so said user can download their individual purchased content.

duh duh daaaaah a lot of work, but I think it just might work.

tell me if im insane  :-\

Its pretty obvious the only photoshop trickery is putting type in the image... The California sea lion has a thick layer of blubber (fat), short, thick fur that is dark brown to buff-colored, and a dog-like head. Males (called bulls) are darker and bigger than females. Males also have a thick furry mane around the neck. Bulls weigh up to 850 pounds (380 kg) and are up to 8 feet (2.5 m) long.

Problem sorted.

Community Projects / Re: Post-Animation Festival
« on: May 21, 2007, 11:00:00 AM »
On the whole I love the animation festival and it is to extrordinary lengths that hages, damian and malcomn have gone to make it happen and that must really be commended. However there is one little niggling thing that always makes me writhe a bit in my seat.

Obviously there is some animations that are so good they need repeating across multiple screenings, but I would think that given the awesomness of the full-festival-pass the repeat should be kept to a minimum. It was this year more than previously that I noticed things repeated throughout seperate screenings. I would imagine that with 2000 odd submissions I believe was mentioned it would probably be more awesome to see into that wide range of submissions and have some of them get the opportunity to screen rather than repeat stuff. I know, what a stupid little thing to pick up on, but i dunno, it just erked me...

Regardless I had an awesome weekend, general quality on show was superb and definately have come out of it with some inspiration, which is great for my current case of artists-block. Anywaysssss... Loved it, and job defiately well done.

And to the forum 6, f*** yeah, best venue so far by a great distance.
