Introduce Yourself!... Again! (2008)
« on: February 15, 2008, 01:54:10 PM »
Yep, it's this topic again. I know there's already a 'Introduce Yourself!' thread up, but why start a whole new one?
Well, simply because I think a lot of us, those of us in second year especially, have changed a lot over the last year. So here's our opportunity to introduce ourselves all over again. First years are of course encouraged to participate. Just give your name (don't have to give your real one), where you come from, what interests you in animation, and so on.

Well, my name's Alex Mason, although I'm fine if people call me 'Atcote' (as quite a few do). For the sake of the first years, I was your O-Week leader during the tour and your introduction to the lecturers. I come from Wangaratta down in Victoria. My interests in Animation extend to my lifelong enjoyment of the medium (ranging from Disney to anime to stop motion, all the way to Beast Wars). I've been drawing my entire life, although what really got me into a post-childhood love of animation, I must admit, was Dragonball Z.
I plan to spend this year experimenting with all sorts of animation, and hope to give stop motion a good go. I admit to liking to stick to 2D, but 3D is also of great interest to me, and want to experiment with sound effects. (You know, as in, do everything that this course is here for us for).
Once I've completed of this course, I plan to travel to England and try my hand at work there.

Okay, so I haven't changed all that much, but I look forward to reading everyone else's entries! Welcome first years!
Just in case people were wondering, it stands for 'At The Convenience Of The Experimenter.'

And now... this!

I am a second year VFX student now...which is VERY weird i must say.!

And i'd like to say that animation is wonderful :-)
i like a range of things, from anime... to....the opposite of anime... lol.

and....Tim Burton rawks~! (my recent veiwing of "Sweeney Todd" has put me in a very pro-burton mood! :-P)

I'm from Dubbo.....AND I plan to be uber organised this year..and i encourage u all to do the same!! :-D...
(just dont have a fire in the first week of uni and you'll be okay!..*speaking from experience here* lol)

I'm a pretty artistic person, and im also a pretty nerdy person.. so this course seemed kind of perfect for me! here i am.

I dont actually know what field i want to specialise in yet or anything...! is that bad? *nervous*
So, this year will be all about experimentation!

Oh... and it was my birthday on the 12th..(i expect gifts people!!) im now officially "old".... well... old, being 20... but thats old.

Hi, my name is Tara.

I'm a second year animation student. I'm 23 and from Wagga..

I'm a big gaming nerd so I wouldn't mind working on games. Although working for a company like Pixar would be great though.. :D
I really enjoyed working with both flash and maya but still haven't decided which one I'd like to focus on. It'll probably be 3D though...

My story pretty much goes i came to uni to learn 3D, but have since decided that id far prefer to do 2D/3D mixtures.. Im still figuring out a particular niche that id like to specialise in, but at the moment id say im a digital painter/matte painter/2D character animator/semi-3D modeller/texturer..  :P

Hi my name is Kyle. I'm a recovering multimedia student completing minors i left behind last year to spend more time on projects i was involved in including Soccerball, Hiatus, Faithful Harp, and Fey.

My aimed specialisation is particles/fluids and a game modification. I'm still a student in terms i'm still learning and fleshing out what can/can't be done and i look forward to seeing the work both 3rd/2nd and 1st year are able to produce in 2008. exciting times ahead.

hi i'm sue, i'm a final-year student in the multimedia course (well i only have 2 subjects to go, so i hope i'll finish - unless i try for honours if i can't bear to tear myself away from uni).  been crazy about the idea of computer animation ever since it became possible, but sometimes get frustrated at how many things (some you don't even know about) can go wrong.  have loved doing 3D, but don't love the look of much of it.  thought i wanted to be a compositor but now not sure i have the patience.  i do know that once you get a character/s happening and a reasonable amount of technical control, so that you can get down to the nitty gritty of making your characters act, it's a big buzz.  you become god/creator-director of your animated world.  mostly i've been tied up with the technical details, but i've had a few flashes of this.  i guess if you make/use simpler characters and environments it might come quicker.
i love stop motion, 2D hand-drawn, abstract/arty.  keen on animated and vfx music videos.
welcome to all new animationvfx students!

~Hello and Welcome~

My name is Matt , i am a second year (as crazy as it seems now) , i am 20 :D

i come from a little place that goes by the name of COOTAMUNDRA, and i play in a band called THE ENDS (plug)

Im a lover of tv/movies what can i say , if i believed in fate id say , fate brought me to this course :P

Animation is what i live , breath  and eat 2 minute noodles for , it is that exciting feeling u get when u see someone trip over & you no u shouldnt laugh but still do , it is what i will do in life and ill do my everything to get there.......

3D is my calling , i love it ..................   from modeling to texturing to animating , its simply where i want to be

Inspirations appear everywhere i open my eyes , but Tim Burton , John Lasseter ,(love to meet these guys) and of course the greats such as Disney and Harryhausen will be evident learned hands to lead me .....
in life i look forward to spending many more hours in front of a screen with 44 empty V cans sprawled across my table , and an unhealthy addiction to Christmas colored m&m's....

and words of advice to all out there .............. class is just a stepping stone for inspiration , take the next step into that abyss of the written word and be happily surprised :D

hope to see you around ~ gud luck this year everyone ~

Hi I'm Nick

3rd Year Multimedia Arts/Photography student

At first I was interested in doing alot of 3d work, now I feel more inclined t do alot of 2d still images mixing digital painting, physical painting and photography. ATM I have a bit of a comic book art itch.... but that may pass... Ben Templesmith FTW!!

Still Nerd and Moosic lover at heart, and if any of you need some help I'd be glad to assist... even if it makes life harder I'll try.

Hi, I'm Jeebuz.  ;D

I've just finished so you probably won't see me around (much)- but I'll probably remain active on the forums untill I get a life. :D

I came to uni to learn how to make generic TV shows but after a roller coaster of revelations I now specialize in 3d modeling/mapping/texturing and enjoy long walks in the park/beach/bush. I also enjoy compositing, because thats where your 3d can really come to life.

The best piece of advice I can pass on is that in TV production your project budget is how much cash you have in your pockets. Multimedia/Vfx can work out alot cheaper, but your real currency is time.

Make of that what you will. Now to disappear in a puff of smoke! *(Fwoosh!)*

.             stunned audience>  ??? ??? ??? :'( ??? ???    ______|  < empty stage
Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should.

Unless its cool.

Hi, I'm Ryan and I'm an alcoh... Wait, wrong meeting!

Long story short... Born in England, moved to Sydney at age 14, lived there until 2007 when I moved to Wagga for Uni and my folks moved to the Sunny Coast... Now spend my time either in Wagga or Queensland!

I'm a second-year TV Production/Multimedia double degree-er though I was enrolled in Animation and Visual Effects for a semester last year... I found that although I love animation that I was far more comfortable (not in my comfort zone completely though) working behind the camera in that mystical place known as TV Land!

I love all things Pixar, have a mild obsession with Woody Woodpecker and of course reckon that Chuck Jones, Nick Park and Walt Disney are legends.

You may notcie the lack of mention for Lasseter and that is because I rate Toy Story as an absolute film great and felt it deserved it's own line...

In terms of geek/arty - I'd say I'm far more the geek than the arty guy but at the same time would not call myself a geek. Bit of a catch twenty situation there but ah well...

Career-wise... I think I've found that my calling is in the editing suite as an editor (shock, horror!)... And I am looking to leave Australia and live in Canada in maybe six or seven years time...

So yeah... That's just about it for now... Tune in next year for another episode of Introducing Ryan!!
That's one thing I tend to do - refer to myself in the third person... Why? Because I'm strange!

Later people...

:) Hey everyone I guess I'll be the first first year to do this, but hi I'm Kate (hope I'm doing this right!) and I'm one of the one's who came straight out of high school yipeee! Anime has got to be my all-time passion, I love how there are so many different styles. I love 2D escpecially drawing using flip books but I can't wait to try 3D as well, it'll be awesome but a lot of work!

The past year in Yr 12 I just really made a lot of different experimentations with claymation, 2D and stop motion, but it's so great to see other people who have the same passions for this medium! My future dream would be to work over in Japan or America, especially to meet Hayao Miyazaki (sure most people know who he is). My hobbies are tennis, drawing and just having a good time so yeah. Anyway, I'm pretty sure this year will be a blast!
