Maya ASCI and crashes
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:44:05 PM »
Ok so I have my beautiful Cathedral Scene, which I have recently saved in Maya ASCI, and after some working and saving, whenever I open it, it takes a few minutes to open, and as soon as it does, it tells me that "Error: Could not complete Boolean Operation"
it just says that when I open it. I haven't even used a Boolean in this scene....

And now after working in the scene for a while, it will invariably crash, with no pattern as to what makes it crash...it sort of just gives up.

Heeeelp
i like this scene
"Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."
"It doesn't have to work, it just has to look like it works."
"It wouldn't hurt to think like a serial killer once in a while!"
“In loyalty to their kind they cannot tolerate our rise; in loyalty to our kind, we cannot tolerate their obstruction.”

Did you make incremental saves and back ups?  If so, roll back to one of those.  That would be the quickest way to fix the issue.

At this stage of the learning I would do that method over tracing a boolean error :)

And as i'm sure any 2nd and 3rd would say, make time for the incremental saving and backups, it will save you a lot of time in the future, especially on larger scenes and more complex assets.

i most defiantly will do.
Though im kinda curious as to how this happened in the first place, i imported a MB file into a MA scene, and previously the MB file had a lot of boolean action in it.....might be it, but i deleted the history thoroughly.

Save incrementally and frequently!

We'll have a look next time I'm in the labs, will you be there today?
