Maya / 3Delight for Maya
« on: December 24, 2010, 10:30:13 AM »
Hey guys,

I just downloaded a render engine called '3Delight for Maya.' It is a Renderman standard renderer, and has all of the fancy bells and whistles as Renderman, but 100% less in price. That's right, it's free! And has been used in numerous feature films like Superman Returns. I haven't used it yet but it certainly sounds good. Here's a render for you using it.

After Effects / Genius idea for organic keyframes
« on: June 22, 2010, 01:53:47 PM »
Hey guys,

Some of you will know which is in my opinion one of the best AE resources out there. Well the mastermind behind it, Andrew Kramer just developed an amazing and slightly incredible idea on how to retrieve focus data from a real camera's footage and apply it to a digital focus effect. The result is a natural focus pull that would be very hard to get with keyframes.

It's worth a look even if you don't use AE that much.  ;)

PC / I am royally screwed right now
« on: May 29, 2010, 05:14:22 PM »
Hey all,

I was rendering a file from After Effects when all of a sudden the render crashed, which was followed closely by Windows Explorer crashing and then some random thing called 'Doctor Watson Postmortem Debugger' crashing. Now whenever I try to open my render folder and delete the file, explorer crashes again.

I'm running Windows XP.

Hope someone can help.

Maya / Maya 2011?
« on: May 04, 2010, 07:27:15 PM »

seeing as we are learning Maya next term I thought I'd think about getting a head start. My only question is will the lab be getting 2011 upgrades any time soon? I need to know which demo version to download.

Thanks! :)
