Web / Motion Graphic Hotness - Justice Music Vids
« on: March 25, 2008, 02:14:32 PM »
I know most people here aren't disposed to electronic/techno/dance music, but it's mostly in this genre where motion graphics go nutso (or funkay, in this case).

Check these out:

This is for the Star Wars nerds and/or film credit fanatics:

I find it funky fresh and uber cooltastic.

Based on a novella by Neil Gaiman, this animated movie is set to be pretty damn good!

According to Wikipedia, it's the first stop-motion animation to be shot stereoscopically. Just found another preview, this time on Neil Gaiman's website:

Sooo SEXY!

A South Korean revenge flick I've heard heaps about. It's on right now (began at 10:30) and is going to end in an hour, but I reckon it's still worth catching what you can of it - visual feast with some pretty nifty effects. After all, it is a revenge film.

Here's a blurb from

Quote from:
Oh Dae-su is kidnapped and later wakes up in a dingy hotel room. He spends the next 15 years there with a TV. He asks himself what made a man hate him enough to imprison him for that long. He watches the news and hears that his wife was brutally murdered and he was framed for that crime. Fifteen years have passed and Dae-su is released. An unknown man calls Dae-su and asks him to figure out why he was imprisoned. He wanders into a sushi bar and is taken home by a waitress, Mido. Oh Dae-su tracks down Lee Woo-jin who kidnapped and imprisoned him. Lee Woo-jin gives him five days to solve the mystery of why.

Games / Halo 3 Ad Campaign

Just thought I'd post links to some of the Halo 3 adverts going around because they're pretty slick and sophisticated. It's a fairly atypical style when you think about how game commercials are done nowadays.

Mac / Apple's New iMac
« on: August 09, 2007, 11:43:13 PM »
Trawling around the internet today (namely, IGN) and it seems that Apple have just released a new iMac. I must say the new design didn't immediately grab me, but I am definitely warming to it - I really do want one.

Movies / HP - OOTP!

Has anyone seen it yet? I'd gone to Greater Union for the midday session only to come out after a one hour 'delay' due to technical difficulties, so got to see it at 5:30pm yesterday. I must say that this installment is probably the best of the five to come onto the screen, with the third one extremely close behind and the others trailing at quite a distance. My newly acquired inability to form long paragraphs and logical sentences will only let me say this: I can't wait for the next film!

Entertainment Weekly's got an exclusive on the new Batman Suit:,,20042739,00.html?cid=recirc-peopleRecirc

Frankly, I think it's a tad over the top with all the detailing, but it does look effective as 'armour'. I probably won't notice in the movie itself though.

So what if it doesn't have as many pressure levels, lpi or as fast a report rate as the Intuos 3 - it's mighty pretty:

It's the new Wacom tablet: Bamboo.

Music / Interesting Music Videos

Watch this video:

Dir En Grey was originally a Japanese Visual Kei band, but in recent years, their image has changed to a less flamboyant display. The link leads you to one of their more controversial videos (actually unrated), titled OBSCURE. It's mass gross out with a lot of blood and oozing liquid, but the effects featured and production in general is top notch.

Squeamish people should probably refrain from viewing, but anyone else really should take a look.

Music / Björk - Innocence Video
« on: May 03, 2007, 08:49:09 PM »
Click here for the Competition information

Björk's upcoming album, Volta, will be released worldwide on the 7th May, 2007. The first single, Earth Intruders has already been released with an accompanying video that's pretty trippy and gobsmackingly tribal. It has been announced that the next single is to be Innocence, which is yet another collaboration between Björk and Timbaland (the first being Earth Intruders).

What is so special about this release? Björk and her production team are holding a competition open to all members of the public to make a music video for the single. If anyone's interested, click the link at the top of this page for the links to the required files.

I think this is definitely an opportunity of a lifetime, so if you have an idea, try it out!

Quote from:
What is this all about?

Innocence is to be made as video.
An idea is born. The idea is to make the video. The video to Innocence, a song of yet to be released Volta record. Who is to make the video? Another idea is born: It is to be you, my dear!

Björk has suggested that the video to Innocence of Volta is to be made by anyone who wants to. She has asked the Madwebcarpenters to help out in finding "you" to make the video. We said: Yes.

We will for conveniance sake call this a competition as it will be Björk who will choose the video and maker to work with.
The deal is thus, people can download creative tools and use them in the video making.

On this page you enter your email so that we can contact you.

The timeline is that the video needs to be ready at the beginning of August, when Björk will collaborate with the winner to completion of the video. The format submitted for viewing will have to be a reasonable sized Quicktime file.

The video needs though to be sent in the first week of July, so they can be viewed and chosen.Even though creative tools are provided, it is not an necessity to use them.
We just love the sculpture!!!

The Song will be available for pre-listen on as of now.

Nothing left to do but to get to know Innocence properly!

External / Freelancing - Anyone Do It?
« on: May 03, 2007, 08:39:11 PM »
As the title suggests, does anyone here do freelance work? If so, how did you get the work and how did you maintain it?  I'm incredibly interested in getting into freelance design and the like, so apart from speaking to lecturers about it, I think a pool of ideas up here will be beneficial for everyone.

Right now, the only 'work' I've got has been commissioned by a friend from high school, so it wasn't too difficult. Actually finishing it is a bit more difficult since I don't really have a deadline, although it will be relatively commercial. Can't really be called a true freelance job, really.
