Adobe have updated the flash player 9 yet again

first it was multi-core and hardware scaling
then it was h.264 video support amongst other enhanced video features
now its been tweaked even further http://www.kaourantin.net/

And lastly, the biggie, flash player 10 announced, codenamed "Astro" http://www.partlyhuman.com/blog/roger/are-you-sitting-down-youd-better-sit-down

native 3D support :o custom filters :o and better text handling.

3D acceleration may/may not be in, if not, i'd say using the inbuilt methods will be much faster than re-creating, like they do in papervision

looks like this place has been dead for quite some time.

Hopefully this will liven things up. For all you 3D guys, there's now a nice little API written by some very smart people which let you use 3D in flash :D and it can even parse models from external files. .ase and collada.

I've been following the development for quite some time, maybe some of you too, i don't know. But seriously, check it out

not much point using the AS2 version as the speed is still bad. AS3 though is great.

looks like theres not many people around here who do some programming, Shame.

Trying not to blow my own horn here, but if you have some problems that you really have no idea about, post it up. I'll be around here for a while and i enjoy helping fellow programmers out. I used to be a student (still am actually) courses like Art History have made it so :( working at soap now and frequently get some free time, so yeah, if you got some problems, i'm most willing to help you out.

in AS3, the event model has changed, you can no longer write code in clipEvents. You have to add an event listener to your object/movieclip and also everything in AS3 is now a class.

if you are after mouseEvents, things like: onMouseMove, onMouseDown, onMouseUp then - http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/201/langref/flash/events/MouseEvent.html

if you are just looking to create a simple button then - http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/201/langref/flash/display/SimpleButton.html

Its a little complex for me to explain how to implement it unless you understand classes. For a simple click event on the stage add this to frame 1

i suggest that you read the help overview of AS3 before using it, it has completely changed from AS2 and is much more advanced and harder. It forces the use of OOP (object orientated programming). Infact the whole VM (virtual machine) has changed completely.

my suggestion is use AS2. In Flash CS3, go to the bottom of the properties pane, select publish settings, choose AS2 from the "Actionscript Version" drop down.
