The Theatrette situation.
« on: April 25, 2007, 12:02:07 PM »
its great to see how so many people have embraced the dailies. i hope more and more people show their work. its a shame how the pc/mac combo arrangement in theatrette is held back by having an old mac singular  button mouse, which makes it impossible to  navigate in Maya. could this be fixed somehow? I know that dailies will move to the studio when its up and ready....but the studio, being the studio, having like some sort of a curse is not up, ready and fixed. So for the interim, is it possible to get a PC 3 button mouse. Consider it an investment.

You could always bring in one from home I suppose...either that cannibalise one of the mouses from the Studio in the meantime...Just waltz in their and swap it over, its not like they'd pull you up on it? Not stealing just...re locating..*ahem* :) That and somehow dispose of the mouse they do have so they have no other option than to replace it...

true, but in all seriousness i shouldn't have to. if the uni can buy THX cert speakers and all these copys of DF and maya *cough*why are they not installed yet*cough* then it could afford a freaking mouse.

it could afford alot of minor things like that but it doesn't seem to want to. The question is, who do we really speak to regarding these problems? otherwise we may as well be shouting into the aether...

Personally I think updating the mouse in the theatrette and embracing the technologies associated with right clicking will really act towards putting us on par with most home based PC systems. Right clicking seems to be current industry standard, so its important that we get to grips with it before hitting the workforce at the end of the year...

I can't help but to notice that what we've achieved here, is realizing that this apparently IS our problem, yet not our responsibility.
Odd, I tend to think of that as a type of contradiction, but here it makes some kind of horrid sense...

Anyway, someone must have an old mouse lying around, just waiting to get to a new home. Anyone willing to take one for the team?
Just in case people were wondering, it stands for 'At The Convenience Of The Experimenter.'

And now... this!

Sadly it must be done. I'm sure our course fees are tied up in more important issues, like paying the IT guys for doing the wonderful work towards installing our Maya licenses.... well... it will be wonderful work once they do. I know it will be. Maya is pretty wonderful.
