Hey guys,

Feel like making some quick money for doing what you all do best - being creative?!

Hungappa is always seeking poems, articles and drawn designs or photographs to fill it's pages and you best of all aside from getting your work out there, you also get paid.

If you wanna put something in Hungi, just drop me an email at or drop into the Rivcoll/Hungappa office down by the Nosh Pit.

I hope to see some funky articles!

Movies / Waltz With Bashir
« on: September 04, 2008, 08:57:52 PM »
Have attatched the blurb from the BIFF (Brisbane International Film Festival) - it seems like a really interesting film and the style of animation is definitely quite different to what you usually see on the big screen. Not sure whether it'll be showing in Sydney or anywhere else anytime soon, but I'm gonna make a point of trying to catch it if it does come out as a general release...

Nominated for the Cannes Palme d'Or, WALTZ WITH BASHIR is a harrowing and powerful animated documentary that has received worldwide critical acclaim. In this semi-autobiographical film, director Ari Folman (Saint Clara, BIFF 1996) loosely recounts his time fighting as an Israeli soldier in the 1982 war with Lebanon.

One night at a bar, an old friend tells director Ari Folman about a recurring nightmare in which he is chased by 26 vicious dogs. Every night it’s the same number of beasts. The two men conclude that there's a connection to their Israeli Army mission in the first Lebanon War of the early eighties. Ari is surprised that he can't remember anything about that period of his life. Intrigued by this riddle, he decides to meet and interview old friends and comrades around the world. He needs to discover the truth about that time and about himself. As Ari delves deeper into the mystery, his memory begins to return in surreal images.

Don't know whether anyone has seen it yet - great little comedy/drama independent film.
Apart from having an enjoyable enough plot and an AWESOME soundtrack it had a really nice rotoscoped title sequence. :D

I would post a review, but I don't think there's a spoiler code to cover up a review from those who haven't seen it/don't want it ruined for them.

Current Affairs / You Know You've Been In University Too Long When...

You actually like doing laundry at home where the washing machines work.

Two miles is not too far to walk for a party.

You'd rather clean than study especially if an essay is due.

"Oh s*** how did it get so late!" comes out of your mouth at least once a night.

Parents' cooking becomes something you desire, not avoid.

You schedule your classes around sleep habits and soap operas especially Neighbours and Home And Away.

You go to sleep when it's light and get up when it's dark.

You live for getting mail.

Looking out the window is a form of entertainment.

Prank phone calls become funny again.

Highlighters are the coolest things on earth.

Rearranging your room is your favourite pastime.

The weekend lasts from Thursday to Monday.

Just a funny little thing I found on Facebook... It's amazing how much of this is true!!

Animate (Flash) / Help With ClickEvents
« on: June 04, 2007, 10:47:37 PM »
I need a little help; well actually my mate does and I tried but have failed miserably, yet I call myself a coder/techie?! *hangs head in shame*
OK, the basis is that she's using Adobe Flash CS3 and she's trying to get a onMouseEvent working... ActionScript 3 has me stumped! In previous versions it was simply a case of OnClick (do Action) yet when I try this simple logic it tells me I'm missing a 'fr{' - Any help, guidance, links???

Television / Big Brother...
« on: May 06, 2007, 08:08:58 PM »
One issue with living in the company of six girls... They watch Big Brother... Eugh.
How can one show be soooo melodramatic?
The people seem to have the exact same personalities that the people in it do every year...

Sorry, just needed to release my frustration at damn reality television...
Anyone else hating Big Brother as much as I am??

Movies / What Have You Watched Today?
« on: May 06, 2007, 06:23:46 PM »
This is a thread that has been used at a number of forums I frequent, so why not here...
Simply post a short write-up on any movie you have watched during the day...
Obviously here, it'd be better to focus less on storyline details and what not like other forums do, but rather on the visual effects/artistic direction of the movies...

Today, I've watched 300 but I posted my review in the 300 thread, so it's kinda pointless writing it here, but still here it is...
This time less in awe of the movie and watching from more of a visual effects stand-point... The wolf was a big let-down in my eyes... It didn't have the realistic feel most of the rest of the movie retained. The movie deisgn; the comic book feel with very strong sepia tones throughout worked perfectly. The battle scenes with the mix of slow-motion camera movements and what not add to this effect, though some of the stabbings weren't entirely realistic in terms of how the body would react (more spurting blood rather than delicate drops flying off on certain stabbings)... Anyhow it's still an amazing movie to me!

Movies / Talking Animals...
« on: May 06, 2007, 05:20:24 PM »
I watched the special features of Racing Stripes yesterday and there's a neat little piece on how the CG guys made the animals talk and retained a realistic(ish) feel...
Just thought I'd bring up the whole topic of talking animals, seeing as they have been used in quite a few movies...

CSU General / Assessment Cover Sheets
« on: May 04, 2007, 08:03:32 AM »
Is there a specific place to download a template file, or will a self-created one suffice?
We do submit our VFX assessments with a printed cover sheet, right?
I've been told we can put a ReadMe type file onto the disc we submit the work on , also...
So I'm not completely sure...

Community Projects / Coffee Machine?!
« on: May 03, 2007, 10:32:48 PM »
This is in community projects, because I can't see anywhere better to put it...
Basically as a group; if people are interested, each pitch in say $5 to purchase a coffee machine for the studio... Damian thought it was a decent enough idea, and most of us do live on the caffiene-rich substance so why not?
Anyone else agree??

Whinges / Flash
« on: May 03, 2007, 01:39:36 PM »
Before someone else picks up on it...YES, I AM A WHINGING POM!!
Nah, just thought I'd let you know that Flash won't load up on the large majority of the computers in the Studio?!

It gets to the splash screen where you select what you're going to do and then you choose whatever and it simply flashes and goes back to the splash?!

Hmmm... That's all...

PC / Post Your PC!
« on: May 02, 2007, 04:05:54 PM »
What's a forum without a 'Post Your PC Specs' thread?!
That wasn't a joke; I'm being serious!!

Post the specifications of your machine here so we can laugh/cry at them?!

Comparisons / PC/Mac Users
« on: May 02, 2007, 03:49:48 PM »
What is the ratio of PC/Mac users studying this course?
Just wondering...

I'm a PC user myself... Always have been, always will be!
Even my creative side is firmly rooted on PCs!!

Mac's just seem to me to be somewhat expensive when you compare to similar specifications for a PC.

Television / Chaser's War On Everything
« on: May 01, 2007, 08:07:26 PM »
Just wondering who's been watching the new series; there's been some fantastic skits already...
My favourites being The Commercial Sell-Out (parodying how Chaser would appear on 9!), The Qantas Advert (Still 49% home!!) and them sending the puny guy that normally does American reports to interview the Bra Boys, wearing a bra and mimicking their tattoos...
The shows' ratings have doubled between their old and new timeslot, so the boys are definitely doing something right.
If you don't watch it already, it's on ABC at 9PM every Wednesday; funny, funny show!!

CSU General / Server Space?
« on: May 01, 2007, 01:23:11 PM »
Hages mentioned today in our lecture that you can apparently get space on the CSU server?
Anything is better than lame-ass FileFront, so anyway know how to set this up or whatever?
