Its Main reasons are valid and will continue to always be valid too. To some it all up if your serious about computers build your own. Cheaper and more powerful. Unless you can afford one of these www.top500.org or this www.cray.com .

Hmm depends unless you want to animate that web you might not get the right affect with just a texture map, like for example if you want the web to fall apart or parts of it to move in the wind or to be effected in areas in which a spider is moving on it I would say sometimes the hard and long way in this case might be a better option at the end you will have less limitations and probably learn a few things in the process.

anyway for those who are also interested in knowing a few books to get here are a few that I have been able to get my hands on they are: The Art and Science of Digital Compositing, Digital Compositing in Depthand Filmmaking Technique Compositing for Film and Video.
Well check them out if yah want Alex maybe they might help you out??? Im just getting whatever I can find at the moment  :)
