NICKELODEON SEEKS AUSTRALIA'S SpongeBob SquarePants
As part of this year's SPAA Conference, kid's pay television channel Nickelodeon Australia is offering up to $20,000 towards the production of an animation pilot. The winner of the funding will be announced at the Conference being held at the Sheraton Mirage Resort on the Gold Coast.
Says SPAA's Gaylee Butler, "This is the first of several new television pitching initiatives to be launched at the Conference this year that offer contacts and funding from key channels. These are exciting opportunities and we call on the independent production community to step up to the challenge."
Nickelodeon is looking for ideas that will appeal to both boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 13 years old. "Our programming is funny, bold, playful and non-violent," say Head of Programming, Deirdre Brennan. "We look for Heart + Fart + Smart, that is, an emotional connection with the target audience; an irreverent sense of humour; and a creatively original look and feel that is fresh and surprising."
All registered delegates at the Conference are eligible to apply. Guidelines and an application form are available from http://www.spaa.org.au/conference.
The SPAA Conference attracts up to 650 industry representatives and key decision makers including producers, directors, distributors, financiers, exhibitors, television network heads, commissioning editors, lawyers and accountants. Of these there is a sizable international contingent from leading media organisations around the world.
SPAA is the industry association for the independent film and television industry, providing leadership and direction on all debates concerning the economics, creative and technological future of the screen production industries in Australia. It strives to create the business conditions for the industry to compete strongly in both local and overseas markets.

Grargh! This is the sort of thing that makes one's head explode out of sheer frustration for the lack of an idea. Irreverent humour is so difficult to conceive well!
Procrastination is the Crown of Purgatory. The bearer of such a burden is a defeated one indeed.

You could always chose something that you were awed by/scared of as a kid, identify its key elements and then make fun of them through ridicule/poking at.

Lets poke fun at school! Yay!
Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should.

Unless its cool.
