holy crap when did that workstation pop up on ebay. that system looks dam good. i would buy another 2 500gb hard drives to expand potential storage of future projects and of course all those uncompressed frames of animation. it would probably be a smart decision to get another 2 500gbs for a raid solution. you'd be pretty screwed if a terabyte suddenly vanished with a years worth of renders and work. cheers for the input Luke, i've been tossing between how the two cards differ. it seems liable now to save and buy a quadro, although holding out for something like the workstation you mentioned would be bloody fantastic. i'm sure any multimedia and animation even proddie students would be over the moon if the lab was filled with a machine like this. although for a system you can get for $5k on ebay, i'm the next lab upgrade will be huge., perhaps Dual Quadro's and Quad Cores? *wink* *wink*

are you for real? since when was Michael bay a bad director. i enjoyed his directing a lot. but you can tell it was a michael bay film but come on. Bad Boys I & II, The Rock (your silly if you don't think this is a classic), Armageddon, Pearl Harbour, The Island. He is also doing the directing for an upcoming game-to-film adaption called Prince of Persia - Sands of Time still in production but looking at a release in 2008. Michael bay haters, i smite you!  >:( 8)

although 2012: The War for Souls is in pre-production, it seems a bit shaky, the story that is.

If its fast renders your after, max out on RAM, then the CPU.

i agree with going with the crossfire option. i just checked the specs of the 2900 series, the only advantage with the quadro is if you want smooth realtime playback of your projects in the viewport without having to playblast them. although the boost in GPU if configured properly should increase your overall rendering speed. maybe hages could elaborate on the pros and cons of a workstation card.

2x HD2900XT's in crossfire looks sexy as. im an nvidia fan, so 2x8800 ultra's.

i was browsing around ebay tonight and decided to look up some workstation graphics cards, specifically quadro's. Anyone interested in grabbing a quadro might want to check out these babies.

Nvidia Quadro FX5500 - $2995
Nvidia Quadro FX4500 - $800

Television / Re: OH the horror! BB and ethics.
« on: May 24, 2007, 07:47:46 PM »
i can't stand that s*** they call BB. i get more entertainment living my life. i dont need to watch other people trapped inside a house being idiots to get entertainment. but then again reality tv shows, especially BB will keep pushing the boundaries. i'm just curious when they will push so far a contestant will commit suicide. and that s*** i heard about some mother and daughter going into the house and getting a boob job. wtf. i think there was also something about a baby being born and left in a nursery for the whole world to see, just to get ratings. the day BB is axed, will be the day television may be worth watching again......maybe.

How about a 30m network cable? dam thing is like a snake, always coiling up around peoples feet and swallowing power boards. tangles galore!

looks more suited of being a beastly server/workstation case to me. and i thought my case was big. bugger me you should put 2 computers in that thing. hope you picked it up cheap, $400 the cheapest i'm seeing it. OUCH! please tell me it has a at least a 400watt power supply. then again, all other decent branded cases cost this much. i wouldn't like to lug it around to lans though.

but i guess you can use this case in the future if you decide to got all out on a workstation.

Coolermaster Ammo 533
Coolermaster Praetorian 732
Antec Atlas

then again these cases are just cheaper alternatives.

this is what i have

i'm still pissed off i missed that awesome after party. Curse these projects!

films that stood out to me were:

  • "My Love" (i was speechless, every frame a work of art)
  • "Burning Safare" (my kind of cruel humour)
  • "The Lecture" (for some reason the screen was a mirror ;))
  • "Journey to the Disney Vault" (i've never been so shocked, in a funny way)
  • "Curiosity" (short and sweet)
  • "The Woodsman" (crazy canadians)
  • "Lost in Snow" (like jeebuz said)
  • "The Adventures of John and John" (if only creating an animation was that easy)
  • "Ten Thousand Pictures of You" (clever use of photography)
  • "The Post it Prison" (the guy has a myspace account with other animations of his)
  • "Sigg Jones" (the french have done it AGAIN!)
  • "458nm" (i enjoyed this immensely, loved the visuals)
  • "Fraught" (aussie aussie aussie!)

heh, this would make kyle's program for next year, minus the my love film
