PC / Re: New Build

Ah so it's a custom build your after? By the sounds of it your current PC should be able to do the job. Maybe post your current computer would give an indication of what you may/may not be upgrading from.

And i also fully agree with Luke's suggestion of getting a Quad Core. They blow the dual core's away in terms of rendering. Not to mention the multitasking power at your fingers when your bring any Adobe program into the equation.

3gb of system memory is good. Keep your important documents seperate from your main hard drive in the event as luke mentioned your system goes haywire and a reformat is required.

Graphics card is a while other issue. Your current ATI card should do just fine if your playing around and experimenting. Dont forget that if your worried about fast turn around of renders, the labs are getting about a dozen new machines that are outstanding (or so i've heard).

But if your a techno nut like some of us, just keep an eye out of what's coming up in new developments, and just build that budget so when it does come time to build your computer, it'll be a behemoth that screams RAWR!.

Hi my name is Kyle. I'm a recovering multimedia student completing minors i left behind last year to spend more time on projects i was involved in including Soccerball, Hiatus, Faithful Harp, and Fey.

My aimed specialisation is particles/fluids and a game modification. I'm still a student in terms i'm still learning and fleshing out what can/can't be done and i look forward to seeing the work both 3rd/2nd and 1st year are able to produce in 2008. exciting times ahead.

Well the new session is about to commence soon and i needed a bit of a push to get the creative fluids flowing again. Needless to say the work has been put off for a month more then what it should've been. None the less i figured i'll share some animations that have left a good impression on me. Enjoy :)

Next Please

P.S. I'll be posting up my production briefs for the personal projects i'll be working on throughout 2008 soon.

Unfortunately for me upgrading my computer this year is a no go since all the grain crops have already been harvested for hay (f***en drought). I've tried UT3 Demo and i must say its a good game. It still holds its place as a fast paced shooter. The weapon look nice too. THe inclusion of a Hoverboard is cool too. UT3 is on my list of games to get.

Hellgate London on the other hand was a big dissapointment. I dont plan on buying the game. The graphics were sub par. Interesting gameplay but not interesting enough to warrant my cash.

Crysis does indeed look pretty and will probably be one of the games i'll be buying. I can't wait for the demo.

Timeshift is another interesting game. Graphics wise its ok but the gameplay itself is more of a hit-and-run. You basically find new ways to kill people using time as a weapon. Sure its great stopping time and blowing a guys head off with 8 shotgun shells and finally attaching a grenade to his head, then reversing time to do it again. The game will get old.....quickly.

And yes, The Orange Box, i've always been a big fan of the games Valve has released. They have stuck with a game engine that has sersved them for years. And team fortress 2!!!!!! I'm definetely getting this game when i'm rich again.

PC / Re: Buying a new comp for CHEAP.

be mindful of msy. when i was trying to get cheap parts from them in sydney i would rate their customer phone service pretty low. From what my friend said there are always big lines to get into the store and usually the most cheapest and good parts are out of stock. get in early to secure your parts.

I'd go for IT Estate and PC Quest.
