Animate (Flash) / Movie and Graphic symbols
« on: May 03, 2007, 10:34:10 AM »
I had someone call this morning with a problem resulting from not being able to see there "movie symbol"...

When you have a graphic symbol (a graphic symbol can be more than 1 frame), the symbol plays as long as your animation (timeline dependant). ie If you create a 100 frame graphic symbol and your animation is only 80 frames, only 80 frames of your symbol will play.

If on the other hand you use a movie symbol, the movie symbol will play it's entirety. So a 100 frame movie symbol will play for 100 frames in a 80 frame animation. This is unless the movie has been scripted to only run for the duration of the animation or has other parameters set.

As a result of the movie symbol being independent of the animation... to preview your movie symbol properly you will need to do a test movie- and not just play from the timeline.

If you are capable of recording it DO IT. You never know when you will need it. And besides- it will most likely sound better than any flouro on a SFX library CD. Also in regards to this, as Hages has mentioned, we are wanting to set up some sort of assett server. Now with this in mind it would be great to have a collection of original SFX created by the students to use as they please - royalty and copyright free!!!

If you want some real game nostalgia read about the good old games on the Amiga, the C64 and dare I mention it the Atari 2600!
The Amiga, renowned for its awesome graphics.. stereo sound could pack some of the best all time games including cinematics onto a 3.5" disk!

Check out these classics from Cinemaware.

I also constantly reminisce over the old Nintendo games... Donkey Kong, Mine sweeper... ahhhh they were the days! ;D
